Wednesday, October 9, Day 91

It continues to rain and rain and rain today, but at least it’s not as hard and in the afternoon it became more scattered. After listening to the weather and hear that the Low is still centered over Cape Hatteras near us, we decide to stay another day. Here we only have to pay for electricity and amenities just a short walk away. When it rains this much, it get leaks in the boat we didn’t know we had and everything is damp absorbing the moisture in the air. This is when having the polypropylene is really helpful and you just have to endure until you get to nicer weather. For me, this is one of the unpleasant aspects of cruising, but thankfully one that doesn’t happen frequently.

There aren’t tides here but the water level does change depending on the direction the wind is blowing from. When you have a south wind like we had for the first several days we were here, the water is down about 2 feet below the docks. Today the water is high, touching the bottom of the docks and flooding at the town dock and across the street.

The above photos were captured when the water was at it’s highest. A little later the water went down 4-6″. With all the rain, Phil emptied the dinghy which had 4-5″ of water just from rain since yesterday! Here are photos of Changes and Rode Trip with the water already staring to recede a little.

I took advantage of the yucky weather and worked on the blog getting it up-to-date which is a relief. Early in the afternoon we took advantage of the washers and dryers to dry the wet towels and wash a load of clothes.

I talked to my parents and it looks like they are running behind in their travels too. Hope that we can meet up next week.

For dinner we walked to Silos Restaurant on the outskirts of town with Brian and Stephanie in the rain. Turns out that it was open Mic so we decided to stay and closed out the restaurant. It was very dark when we started walking and not too far down the road a kind couple in an PT Cruiser offered us a ride which we gladly accepted cramming ourselves into the back seat.

We gave hugs goodby to Brian and Stephanie as we both are planning on leaving tomorrow to our next destinations. We will be going to Morehead City, NC to keep the boat overnight at Portside Marina so we can visit Tom and Beverly Love in their new home and stay overnight there.
