Shalom Y’all Food Festival

Sunday, October 27. Day 110

We woke up to more cold this morning. An unusual thing happened. We heard birds walking on the foredeck and then saw birds walking on the forehatch. We haven’t seen this before so I attempted to get some photos, very quietly getting out of bed to get the camera and not disturb the birds. This is my not very good results.

It was 45 F outside and 62F inside the boat so Phil got out the propane camping lantern to heat up the boat. We touched base with our friend Randy on SV Lipari and they will probably be leaving Oct 30 for the trip to BVI’s. Too bad we won’t get to see Randy before he leaves. It just didn’t work out.

Today we are going with Mark and Jennifer in their car with Judy and Steve to Forsyth Park in Savannah for the Jewish Food Festival. You buy tickets to try many different foods like Deli Sandwiches (corned beef, pastrami, or tongue), Potato Latkes, Fresh Blintzes, Fresh Challah, Hummus & Pita, Kosher Hot Dogs, Brisket, Sizzling Sephardic Lamb, Stuffed Cabbage, Sodas, including Dr. Brown’s® Sweets from our Sisterhood. I had the latkes, corn beef, blintzes with Phil. They also have live music playing. This is an annual event and really a good place to try Jewish food if you haven’t had it before!

Forsyth is a beautiful City Park one block wide (you can see the streets on both sides easily) and a several blocks long. It’s really very nice!

After we had eaten our fill, I got a call from Ken Blyth from SV Sail Away who is in the area on his way to Green Cove Springs to prepare his boat for the upcoming cruising season. Mark gave him great directions so meet us at the park. While Judy, Steve, Mark, and Jennifer went to Jekyll Island, we joined Ken while he ate lunch at Bernie’s Oyster Bar. We had a great time catching up and he was kind enough to get us back to Sail Harbor Marina just in time for when Judy and Steve were going back on their dinghy.

We had cocktails on Bentana and Kent on a Hunter 30 anchored close by came to join us.

While Jennifer was here, she showed me how to use the TRX and gave me some exercises. Bet you thought that I wasn’t going to use it??!! Well I have and plan to use it again. It provides a good strength workout and wouldn’t be surprised if my abs are screaming tomorrow.

We ended the day with a beautiful sunset.

  1. Love the Jewish food! Hummus is one of my favorite vegetarian protein substitutes. Lamb is fantastic, as are latkes. I’ve never had blintzes, but challah-when made right-is one of the most fantastic breads out there. They make it in wheat, but the white really tastes much, much better. If you’ve never had proper matzo ball soup, that is one to try too. Though…make the matzo balls fresh. That’s the only way to do it.
