Rainy day in Erie, PA

Day 8. June 30, 2025

We woke at 0700. Phil took a shower and breakfast was cold cereal. It was 79° inside the boat. Mid morning Phil went up to the barbershop at the marina office and had his haircut. Vicki put together the bikes and there was a light rain with predicted to have thunderstorms come at 12:30 PM. We felt that if we wanted to ride bikes, we would have to get going as soon as Phil‘s haircut appointment was done. It took longer than I thought and when going inside to talk to Phil, I felt like I was intruding.

Phil and Vicky rode the two bikes up to Perry Square. Unfortunately, Bayfront Pharmacy mostly was for dispensing meds. I went into a yoga store to see if they had yoga mats for sale, but no luck. We went to Flagship City Food Hall at 22 N. Park Row was sad to note that there weren’t as many food kiosk open and the grocery store was closed. I think just for today, but not sure.

After we got back we both took a nap. It was raining lightly on and off in the afternoon. Most of the red cells went not and south of us. I went to the marina office to get 2 bags of ice and the rain started coming down heavy. I made it back to the boat before it was a deluge. Turns out Phil used the marina bathrooms and had to wait until the rain stopped to get back to the boat. I made ham and turkey sandwiches for Phil and I, yogurt with fruit and blueberry powder.

Phil and Vicky decided to go for a bike ride in between the rain storms. Rain started moderate pace and I looked at the radar, noted on Life 360 that they had stopped in the Erie Library to wait out the storm. I called them, sent them the radar and recommended they ride back in the rain as was going to get worse and last until 745pm. They cam back befor the heavy rain arrived.

I wish that I had or had taken the side to make side windows along the cockpit settees as the rain comes dripping in at the end of the dodger and blows in further in. I put up these unused trash bags to guide the water out the cockpit, which worked until the wind picked up. if we go home to get Phil’s back better, then continue our trip, I will be making something that zippers in to the top of the go between and the vertical back of the dodger.

Supper WS baby potatoes, broccoli and cauliflowers and Mediterranean flavored salmon from Aldi’s. The bikes got put away about 2000 just when it started raining again.

We had much discussion about when to go to Dunkirk and Buffalo so that Vicky can catch a plane home. It’s to have morning showers Tuesday and the further east we go the more chance of rain Thursday morning. After texting Brett the Dock master at Dunkirk Yacht Club and fin8nf that we were welcome to arrive Wednesday and leave Saturday, that’s what we decided to do. then we completed our form from Erie Basin Marina in Buffalo Harbor to see if we can stay July 5 to 7.

We played one round of dominoes, which Lorraine went out first. After wards we read, knitted (Lorraine) and whatever before bed around 1030pm.

I’m knitting the quill top https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/quill-tee here is the link is you want to see the pattern and projects of others that had made it. I’m using one strand of wool/cotton yarn to make a lighter weight top. I’m getting close to having the body done, then finish the sleeves. It’s not much to knit this top, but I’ve been so busy getting ready for this trip, or too hot and humid to knit!

  1. you are not alone in dealing with this weather. We golfers are also struggling to play in rain and then terrible humid heat.😩

we are all hoping that conditions improve.
