Last day in Buffalo- Vicki returns home

Day 14 Sunday, July 7, 2025

We woke at 5:45 PM Phil did his exercises and I decided to go back to bed and slept for another two hours. Vicky and I had showers and were back at the boat by 10:15 AM. We had a nice time chatting about girl things. Vicki started packing her duffel bags for the return home. Vicky found her soap in a bag and her cough lozenges, which had been missing so she was able to return home with everything that she brought with her. Pete on the boat next-door, a C&C 35 brought me three bottles of Fairlife milk and an oven thermometer. It was greatly appreciated and I’m so glad that he came in the morning because the day was gonna be a busy one.

Weather:

Inside boat: Hum low 61% high 74% current 67% wet

Temp: low 77.9° high 87.4° current 84°

You might ask why I look at weather every day. When you live on a boat, you need to know the weather so that you can decide what to do that day, and when you might move onto the next location. It will also be good to have a record of this so far HOT summer.

We scheduled an Uber pick up at 11am to get Vicki to the airport. Phil‘s iPhone was not charging so we needed to go to the Apple Store at the Walden Galleria mall. The Uber driver Ron picked us up at 11 o’clock and we got Vicki to the Buffalo airport with plenty of time to spare. After our goodbyes, Ron took us to the Walden Galeria Mall taking the back streets and arriving about 1140 am. Phil wanted to look at what the Apple Store had first so we walked around until we found the Apple store and he looked at the new models. The repair appointment wasn’t scheduled till 1:25 PM, so we walked a little bit more and decided to eat at P.F. Chang’s restaurant which we haven’t been to in a long time. Maybe the last time was when we visited his cousin’s Karen and Jerry when we went through Washington DC to look at a boats in southern Chesapeake Bay area. Phil had sweet-and-sour chicken and I had the lunch option that came with a spring roll and beef and broccoli with brown rice.

We walked back to the Apple Store about 10 minutes before the appointment. and Phil waited on one of the cubes at the back of the store while they cleaned out the charging port. Turns out that’s all that was needed, and Phil didn’t want to fix the cracked screen. They set them up at one of the tables so he could charge up his phone. They also bought a USB-C to lightening charging cord and I bought a new smaller external battery that had 2C connectors and 48 hours of charging since the one that I had bought when we went to Hawaii is worse the wear.

The galleria mall looks very prosperous, compared to the malls that we see in the Cleveland area. We talked to somebody in in the area and since we have a new president, Canadians are not coming over to use the mall and buy things in the United States. The mall has really suffered with the lack of their patronage. I hope things change before this mall declined to the point of no return. It has two stories and lots of stores and it’s nice and bright inside, but not as many cars in the parking lot as they used to be.

We had a Uber driver Leroy you took us back to the boat and I did some chores inside the boat related to the cats and then started posting on the blog. We’ve been so busy then I’m a little behind as you can see this post is three days late.

View from Vicki’s plane of Erie Basin Marina and entrance to Buffalo River

The river above the big white roofed building is the Naval Park and above that is the marina. We were near the end of the 3 row of docks from the entrance to the marina.

She arrived safely at home and made her connection in Chicago. We will miss her!!

We decided that it was too hot to cook on the boat so we went to Sully’s bar and restaurant along Buffalo River. Found out that there was was a band named Scarlet begonias, a cover band for the Grateful Dead. It was the $10 each covered charge. Bill had Italian sausage with pepper and onion sandwich and I had grilled chicken with sweet potato fries and we both had ice water. The first set the band played a lot of music then after their break, they played music that was more solos for the piano and guitars, then actually singing with words. There were lots of people wearing tie-dyed T-shirts, and funny cigarettes being smoked with the resulting odors. the food was good there, but we had enough of the band and it was very hot too. I had brought one of my white portable fans and that was certainly helpful.

Scarlet’s Ice cream. The soft serve is very good and creamy. the hard serve is good too.
